USA Year in Review - (January to June 1/2) Highlights in Data and Trends for 2022

We kick it off with the ever-growing sport of pickleball! It is interesting that at least 1 in 2 have one or more courts now, but I also was surprised with how many are still planning on building a court(s) next year. I look forward to asking this again mid-to-late 2023 to see how it's increased (from March 2022)...

Our industry makes it tough to work-from-home but this was something that many clubs allowed during the pandemic and continued to in some fashion in 2022 (from March 2022)...

Wait-lists, to our knowledge, are at an all time high and though some expected a correction or dip in 2022, we just didn't see it. Another one we'll look forward to asking again in months to come (from March 2022)...

Although I think clubs are taking measures to keep those on a wait-list engaged, we thought we'd establish a benchmark and ask. Here's what we found (from May 2022)...

There were some GM's curious about the frequency of inquiries early-mid 2022, so we posed the question. It turns out inquiries were up, especially in the early part of the year, roughly 70% (from April 2022)...

Staffing has been extraordinarily difficult over the last year and clubs are trying to incentivise potential F&B personnel to join, and current employees to stay, with new and increased auto-gratuity plans (from April 2022)...

Technology is certainly taking on different forms these days. I found drone usage particularly interesting and was curious how many actually own versus bringing in a 3rd party. How it's being used may be next up (from March 2022)...

In May we explored current Chef tenure. We know GM tenure is just over 4 years but wondered how the kitchen's main position compared. Also, we knew many were in search of a new Chef this year so we wanted to account for that (from May 2022)...

There was a great article this year on club capital spending and when asked, we threw out the question to see where our participants stood. Yes, capital spending has been up since the start of the pandemic (from March 2022)...

Should a GM/COO have an active role on their Nominating Committee? That is not determined, however we believe this seat for Club Managers is on the rise. Data is as follows (from May 2022)...

Though wait-lists are staying strong, rounds played in late spring were on the decline (from May 2022)...

Inflation has been a big topic for 2023 budgets. Where does it end?!?

To combat the significant increase in 2022, menu prices in the spring took a jump. Here was the average increase (from June 2022)...

Last but not least in this first year-in-review instalment, we took a look at mid-management terminations. What is the annual average? We're not too sure. I would been keen to know this as it's likely the worst part of any GM/COO's responsibilities and not often one you're prepared for before it happens (from June 2022)...

Part 2/2 (July-December) in the coming days. In the meantime, Happy New Year everyone!!
